Common Website Content Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Writing web content can be a daunting task. How do you educate people about what you do while trying to get them as a new customer? This is the million-dollar question.
In this post we will go over four of the top mistakes business owners make when writing content for their websites.
Getting Too Technical
You are an expert on your industry. If you were not, you would not be in business. You want to prove your expertise without writing over the heads of your potential customer. Write in layman’s terms so everyone can understand your information.
Not Writing Anything
You have to write about your company to sell it on the internet. Without written content, it is almost impossible for Google to index your site. That means you will not show up because you are not answering any questions for the search engine. It is also difficult for potential customers to decide to work with you if they do not understand who you are, what you do, and how you do it.
Plagiarizing
It IS okay to use your competitor’s website for content inspiration. Look at the pages they are presenting along with the questions they are answers. Then write your own content to get all the info to your potential customer.
It is NOT okay – it is, in fact, illegal – to use content (including images) from another website without permission. It does not bode well for your reputation to plagiarize content on your website.
Stagnant Content
Your business will change. Your web content should change with it.
Set up a schedule to review your website content for accuracy. An appropriate review schedule will depend on your business. During this review, verify that your content is relevant and correct. You may also consider adding additional content. Think about the questions your customers ask and answer them on the site. This pr will save you time and give the customer as much information as possible before they reach out.
There’s no one better to write content about your business than you. If you avoid these common content writing mistakes, your content will be successful.
